Retail
is right for Nelson

When Nelson graduated from Maxwell High School, he
had dreams of one day getting a job that he would enjoy. However, he
wasn’t sure what type of job he would like to do. So, during his senior
year, he met with his TLC and followed the
Steps
to Success to enroll at the
Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service
(BBCS). Nelson was referred to BBCS by his VESID Counselor Nadia
Jeanty.
Initially, Nelson completed a 15-day evaluation at
BBCS to find out what career would be best for him. Once Nelson learned
that BBCS offers a retail training program that included an internship
at Toys R Us, his eyes lit up, and he said, “this is the program for
me.” Nelson completed a two day trial in the retail program, did really
well, and then enrolled in the program. Nelson stated, “Once I started
the retail training program, I knew this was what I wanted to do. I
love working in a store and assisting customers.”
Nelson said once he completes the program he’d love
to work in a store like Circuit City or Staples.
