Vocational
rehabilitation is a process that involves an application for services, eligibility
determination, vocational counseling and the development of an Individual Plan for
Employment (IPE) to provide services leading to employment.
Residents can attend a local informational and orientation meeting conveniently located
in the county nearest their home. Meetings are held on a regular basis by appointment.
Applicants, advocates, representatives for agencies and interested individuals can call 1-800-782-6164 to get information on the next scheduled orientation
session. Leave TTY messages at 428-4659 (TTY) or call 1-800-782-6164 by relay to arrange accommodations for individuals
who are deaf and hearing-impaired.
During the group orientation we will give you an overview of the VESID program which
will cover topics such as:
- The mission of VESID
- How one becomes eligible for services
- VESIDs goal of employment for every consumer
- Types of services available
- Economic need overview
- Consumer rights and responsibilities
- Voter registration
- The Client Assistance Program (CAP)
- The Appeal Process
- Next steps in the rehabilitation process
Applications
will be available at this meeting and there will be a discussion on how to complete the
application forms. Assistance in filling out the forms is available at the orientation
sessions if needed.
Things to remember:
- Please be on time latecomers will be
rescheduled for a future session
- Orientation sessions typically last about one hour - please plan accordingly.
- If you have current medical information/reports, please bring them to the orientation
session as it may speed up the application process for you.
After the group session of the orientation is completed, if you are interested in
following through with your application, a VESID representative will briefly review your
paperwork with you. If your paperwork is complete, you will be notified by letter what the
next step is in the rehabilitation process.
