ANIMAL SCIENCE

DESCRIPTION

Animal caretakers feed, water and exercise animals. This work can be physically demanding and unpleasant at times. An attendant will both groom and feed the animal, sometimes administering treatment and first aid. A veterinary assistant will administer treatment as assigned by the veterinary technician. A veterinary technician is very skilled and does everything a veterinary doctor does except diagnose the animal.

WORK CONDITIONS

Some of the work can be physically demanding. The work setting can be very noisy. Animal care workers should realize that euthanizing ill and aged animals is a reality. An animal caretaker is exposed to biting and kicking from animals, as well as the possibility of exposure to animal diseases.
