New York State Education Department Policy on Modified Temporary License |
This is to follow-up the joint Rebecca Cort/Joseph Frey memorandum of June, 2003 regarding alternate strategies approved to meet teacher certification requirements. At its meeting on July 17, 2003, the Board of Regents voted to approve the new "Modified Temporary License" regulations that will permit the employment of a limited number of uncertified individuals to teach in subject shortage areas during the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 school years.
Non-public schools are eligible to apply for the Modified Temporary License.
A guidance memorandum and application form are available online at http://www.vesid.nysed.gov/specialed/timely.htm.
Applications for Modified Temporary Licenses need to be submitted by early August to ensure review and approval by the beginning of the school year.
