Providing a Quality Education for Children with Visual Impairments and Additional Disabilities |
A residential program is available for students not able to commute daily to the school. Students in the residential program travel home each weekend and all holiday vacations.
The residential settings are cheerfully decorated and provide many of the comforts of home. Our evening programs provide children with opportunities to develop social, recreational and daily living skills under the guidance of skilled and caring staff.
Daily activities are planned to reinforce skills learned during theschool day and provide new experiences for children to strengthen friendships and develop personal interests. These opportunities include bowling, swimming, shopping, roller-skating, movies, fishing, boating, sledding, go-carts, and attending local events. An exciting variety of community experiences enrich our students' lives and enable them to develop the skills they need as members of our society.
Living Areas:
NYSSB is located on a 16-acre wooded campus. The campus offers many special outdoor areas.
Sensory Park- A unique play area developed several years ago with the help of the Lions, with our youngsters in mind. It is accessible. It has many exciting sensory activities that offer students opportunities to play and have fun!
Track and Baseball Diamond - Recently renovated, this area provides very exciting opportunities for our children. There is a storage shed loaded with adaptive outdoor equipment. We have held our own Olympic Games, a NYSSB Beeper Ball tournament and lots of afternoons have been spent just riding bicycles or an adaptive vehicle around with friends.
Gardens and walkways - The campus has numerous gardens to enjoy. Each classroom and residential area has developed a garden area and maintains it through the season. We have plans to expand our gardening projects with a small greenhouse, with hopes to further develop a Horticulture Program.
