Health Center staff are committed to our mission and with assisting you in maintaining your child’s health so he/she may fully participate in the education program. We request that all medical issues be shared directly with the Health Center nurses to avoid miscommunication.
If your child is in a 5-day residential or day placement at the school we provide all daily nursing services as indicated on the IEP, emergency services, communication with your child’s Primary Care Physician and a variety of other medical services, per your consent.
Services available to all students:
A Registered Nurse is on duty for 24 hours a day, beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday evening until Friday at 3:00 p.m. Licensed Practical Nurses are also assigned to all shifts. The nurses administer all medications and provide any medical care for your child as identified in their individual health care plan. They also provide any first aid or emergency care for them. The nurse will notify you if your child is ill, injured, is seen by the school physician, or requires emergency services. They will also contact you if additional health information is needed.
The United Memorial Medical Center (UMMC) is 3 blocks from the school. If a child has a medical emergency or an injury (requiring more than first aid) your child will be transported immediately for evaluation and treatment by the ER physicians.
