Assessments

Speaker Notes:

Section 612(a)(16)

IDEA ensures that LEAs measure the performance of students with disabilities on State and district wide assessments.

The State must have accommodation guidelines for State tests. New York State's guidelines have been developed. Please refer to http://www.vesid.nysed.gov/specialed/publications/policy/testaccess/guide.htm,

Test Access and Accommodations for Students with Disabilities. If a LEA administers district wide assessments, the LEA must develop accommodation guidelines for those assessments.

Alternate assessments must be aligned with State Standards or with alternate academic achievement standards.

The number of students participating in each type of alternate assessment must be reported.

Universal Design principles are to be used in the development and administration of State and districtwide assessments to the extent feasible.
