The Commissioner’s Advisory Panel for Special Education Services

Meetings:  

The Panel meets three times each year in Albany. Meetings are open and accessible to the public. All meetings include an opportunity for public comment. The meetings are held over two days. The first thirty minutes of the first day of the Panel session, from 9:30 - 10:00 is devoted to public comment. Individuals are limited to five minutes of comment. If intending to provide public comment, please call (518) 473-2878 or email VESIDSPE@mail.nysed.gov at least two weeks prior to the scheduled meeting. Please provide the following information to when registering:

  • name;
  • organization;
  • address;
  • email address;
  • phone number; and
  • topic on which you intend to speak.

After the public comment session, the Panel meets as a full group to allow for discussion on various topics and informative presentations from Department staff. There are three standing committees that address (1) preschool special education, (2) transition of students with disabilities from one system to another and (3) the development of personnel involved in the education of students with disabilities.

The next scheduled meeting will be held April 3 and 4, 2008. (Agenda)

The Proposed Annual Plan identifies CAP responsibilities and proposed activities for each meeting related to those responsibilities.
