Vocational rehabilitation is a process that
involves an application for services, eligibility determination, vocational counseling and
the development of an Individual Plan for Employment (IPE) to provide services leading to
employment. Attending an orientation session is usually the first step in the application
process. If you have any current medical information to document your disability such as
diagnosis, prognosis and limitations, please bring that information with you to
orientation.
During the group orientation, we will give you an overview
of the VESID program, which will cover such topics as:
- The Mission of VESID
- How one becomes eligible for services
- VESID's goal of employment
- Medical assessments
- Confidential Health Questionnaire
- Types of services Available
- Economic need
- Consumer rights and responsibilities
- The Client Assistance Program (CAP)
- The appeal process
- Next steps in the rehabilitation process
After the group session of the orientation is completed, if
you are interested in following through with your application, you will be given forms
necessary to apply for VESID services. You can complete these forms at that time or take
them with you and mail them in later. Assistance will be provided if you have questions or
concerns regarding the paperwork. If you do not have medical reports with you or if
additional information is needed, we will give you the necessary medical forms, you will
need to have completed by your doctor. If cannot get a report which describes your,
disability VESID will able to arrange for evaluations needed to determine eligibility.
Once we have the necessary information, you will be notified by letter what the next step
in the rehabilitation process is.
