August 25, 2004 Update: A joint NYSED VESID/OHE/OTI meeting was held on July 29, 2004 to discuss the recommendations from the university groups. A summary of the discussions was prepared including target outcomes. A briefing will be provided to plaintiffs at the August meeting. NYCDOE met to discuss the recommendations and will meet a second time and then inform NYSED of the initiatives to be taken to address the recommendations. NYCDOE endorsed an incentive to attract speech providers that addresses credit for clinical and other experience (Exhibit 7). |

and addresses for recruitment purposes.

August 25, 2004 Update: Scholarship program materials were received from NYCDOE and distributed by OHE and VESID by email to training programs and technical assistance providers (Exhibit 4). The topic of financial incentives was discussed at the July 13, 2004 NYSED/NYCDOE meeting. A subsequent discussion was held by telephone to discuss providing credit for clinical experience. Recommendations were approved at NYCDOE and received on August 13, 2004 (Exhibit 7). A letter is under development. |

UFT to prepare a cost estimate for expanded speech program and will establish a Memo of Understanding with NYCDOE by the beginning of November. |

February 17, 2005 Update: UFT developed a cost proposal that was presented to NYSED and NYCDOE on January 6, 2005 at a joint meeting at UFT. Follow-up phone conference meetings led to both NYCDOE and NYSED committing to approximately $350,000 each to support a proposal to double the program with an emphasis on bilingual speech providers. UFT will provide in-kind support for facilities, travel, supplies and related expenses. Recruitment and registration activities for the next cohort of participants is currently underway. NYCDOE and NYSED will follow-up with UFT or the use of scholarship and ITI funds to support participants (if needed). |
