Performance of Students with Disabilities on Elementary Mathematics Examination by Need/Resource Capacity* 2004

*

See Appendix 2.2 for Definition of Need/Resource Capacity.

In 2004, there were significant gaps in the performance of students with disabilities on the Grade 4 Mathematics assessment between Need/Resource categories of school districts, however the gaps are not as great as on the Grade 4 English Language Arts assessment depicted in Appendix 10.7. Almost all students with disabilities (95.5 percent) in the Low Need school districts achieved a score at or above Level 2, while more than two-thirds (70.9 percent) of students with disabilities did so in New York City. Also, in Low Need school districts, more than three-quarters (76.2 percent) of students with disabilities performed at proficient levels (Levels 3 and 4), compared to almost a third (32.9 percent) of students with disabilities in New York City.
