More special education students are separated from their non-disabled peers in New York State than the nation. (Nationally, 20.3% of students with disabilities are in separate classes for 60% or more of the day, compared to 29.8% in New York, and nationally, only 4.1% are in separate educational settings, compared to 7.7% in New York State.)
