VESIDs Strategic Plan
We all learn to become independent, contributing members of
society, and to participate within our communities through educational and social
experiences with our peers. This is true for people with or without disabilities, whether
they are preschoolers, school-age children, or adults. As stated in the Rehabilitation Act
of 1992, disability is a natural part of the human experience and in no way diminishes the
right of individuals to:
- Live independently;
- Contribute to society;
- Pursue meaningful careers;
- Enjoy self-determination;
- Make choices; and
- Enjoy integration in the economic, political, social, cultural and
educational mainstream of American society.
VESIDs strategic plan is based upon these principles. Progress
is evaluated based on six goals, which are presented, with data summaries, in the
following pages of this Pocketbook. The latest available data are included.
