YOUR HELP IS NEEDED WITH A SPECIAL PROJECT

The New York State Dispute Resolution Association, Inc. (NYSDRA) needs your assistance with a new Special Education Mediation Program Outreach Project by completing a short informational survey.  In addition to providing important information, participants will be thanked in two special ways: a chance to win a Borders Book Store gift card, and also any completed survey respondent can get a special education mediation poster.

NYSDRA needs your help with this Project, and would like you to complete the survey.  NYSDRA is gathering information to improve the mediation program, and needs information from people involved with special education.  As the first step in this Outreach Project, NYSDRA is surveying parents, school personnel, advocacy and service providers, and other appropriate people in New York State about how they obtain special education information and their knowledge of special education mediation.

Survey and Prize Information

The survey is brief, and all responses will remain confidential.  Due to the broad dissemination of this survey, NYSDRA apologizes if you have been or are sent this information more than once.  Each individual should complete the survey only once.  Survey information can be obtained and completed directly on NYSDRA’s website at http://www.nysdra.org/articles/article_details.asp?id=118

Any individual who completes the confidential survey will be eligible for a $50.00 gift card redeemable at any Borders Book Store.  Borders has donated 4 of these cards for prizes.  In addition, any individual who completes the survey can receive a poster promoting special education mediation.

Please complete the information at the end of the survey for the poster and/or to be eligible for the gift card prize.  Please note that only one entry is permitted per individual.  The survey will be active until June 15, 2005.  The survey can be completed directly online at www.nysdra.org, or hard copies can be mailed or faxed to NYSDRA using the information at the end of the survey.

About NYSDRA and Special Education Mediation

NYSDRA is a non-profit professional membership organization which promotes the full use of dispute resolution in New York State through the development and enhancement of appropriate dispute resolution capacity in its communities.  Since 1990, NYSDRA has been providing Special Education Mediation throughout the State through a network of non-profit community mediation centers.  These mediations help resolve conflicts between parents of a child with a disability and the school district.  The dispute can relate to identification, evaluation, educational placement or the provision of a free appropriate public education for the child.  There is no cost to parents or the school district.

Do You Know Someone Who Could Help with This Study?

We are trying to get as many people as possible to complete the survey so that we can obtain as much information as possible.  If you know of someone who could help with this study, please let them know of the survey and where they can find it.

Additional Information

NYSDRA would like to thank Borders for their donation of the gift card prizes and extends our appreciation to the Charitable Venture Foundation for their support of this important study.

NYSDRA thanks you for your participation in this important project.  Please feel free to call 518-687-2240 or email rebecca@nysdra.org  if you have questions or comments.
