Transition
Services - we work together for you
In Suffolk County there are over fifty high schools. Each
school has a VESID counselor assigned as its liaison. The counselor visits the school
regularly to meet with applicants and their parents or guardians. Our goal is to reach out
into the community to provide easy access to VESID services so that students with
disabilities can make a seamless transition from school to work. Four VESID counselors
work exclusively with transitioning students. A fifth counselor also works with
transitioning students. One counselor is outstationed at BOCES West, Manor Plains School.
Two are outstationed at BOCES East, one at Islip Career Center and the other at BOCES Ward
Technical Center.
Hauppauge District Office VESID transition counselors make
themselves available to meet with parent advocacy groups such as district SEPTAs to
provide information about VESID services. Prior to a students application,
counselors provide consultative services to parents and school personnel.
Hauppauge District Office VESID transition counselors are
committed to providing high quality services to students who are transitioning from school
to post school activities.
