Michael ….Teaching Others To Go Beyond
Occupation: Physical Education Teacher
Michael came to VESID as a high school junior preparing to transition
to college. His plan was to major in Physical Education and wrestle at
the collegiate level. He had struggled in high school and
knew he needed VESID to help access the technology and supports he required
to be successful. With his dedication, hard work, and VESID
supports, Michael was an honors student at Brockport. He
is now a full-time Physical Education Teacher working on a Master’s
degree and duel certification in Physical Education and Special Education.
Michael incorporates academic skills, personal responsibility and accessible sports into his Physical Education curriculum. He goes beyond “no child left behind” to jokingly advance “no child left on their behind”. Michael is committed to promoting healthy living and concerned about insufficient physical education resources in schools. As Michael puts it, you cannot “fix a pot hole with gravel when it needs black top”.
In addition, Michael finds time to coach for several wrestling clubs and schools. He frequently shares his experiences and encourages others to seek out and utilize supports such as VESID to be successful in reaching their goals.
