John…Believing In Oneself !

Occupation: Instructor

johnsmithJohn was referred to the VESID office in October 2006 as a result of a work-related injury. He was employed as a New York City Fireman/Paramedic for 16 years.  John was 48 when he sustained this injury and felt that due to his age, he would never be able to support his family again.

After meeting with his VESID Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, Kate, he felt encouraged and positive that the Vocational Rehabilitation system could help him regain his financial independence.  John expressed a desire to remain in the medical field and visited the Hunter Business School in Medford, where a program in Medical Office Administration was offered.

Mr. Jay Fund, proprietor of the Hunter Business School, recognized John’s talents and skills and offered him a position as a Medical Instructor at their Levittown campus.  John is a success story in the truest sense.  He is on the way to establishing himself in a growing career, while mentoring other students who are on the same journey.

John has thanked VESID and the Hunter Business School for helping him believe in himself and now being able to meet his financial obligations and support his family.
