Internet Sites for Vocational Rehabilitation

There is an enormous amount of information on the Internet related to vocational rehabilitation. Most sites have links to other related sites, allowing your search to go well beyond this site and other searches.

This list includes both public and private sites. VESID is not recommending one site over another, but trying to maintain a broad range of sites. You will also find a number of Internet-related sites, since knowledge of the Web can be very helpful in researching information.

Anyone can put a page on the Internet. There may be times that you will want to verify information, or at least be aware that some pages are opinion rather than fact.

Find: This page is a very long list of links. If you have a specific word or words to look for, you can click Ctrl-F (F for Find) to find any word or words on this page. If you know part of the name of a site, or know a key word that might help you find the site, try using this Find function.

New Screen: Because of the length of this page, you may want to open a link in a new window, rather than opening it "over" this page. Instead of clicking on the link, right click on the link and left click the "Open link in new window" drop-down menu choice. Then, when you're finished looking at the site, you can close the window, and this site will still be on the screen.

CareerZone - http://nycareerzone.org/
CareerZone is a free, career exploration and planning system designed especially for middle and high school students. The CareerZone System harnesses the power of the Internet to make career exploration fun and simple. CareerZone provides information on 900 occupations from the new O*NET Database. Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT)

Alphabetical Index - (http://www.theodora.com/dot_index.html)
To use this index, you would need to know the exact occupational title. The results will provide the code, but no other information about the job title.

Dictionary of Occupational Titles - http://www.oalj.dol.gov/libdot.htm
Complete DOT, set up by the Department of Labor for Administrative Law Judges.
Message from the Secretary | Introduction | Parts of the Occupational Definition | How to find an Occupational Title and Code | Occupational Categories, Divisions and Groups | Master Titles and Definitions | Term Titles and Definitions | Occupational Definitions | Glossary | Appendices | Alphabetical Index | Industrial Designations | Terms and Definitions.

(This might be especially useful when an alphabetical search doesn’t show the title a title you are looking for. Because the titles are very precise, the type of work may be listed under another title. Using this site, you would be able to browse through general categories, finding more and more specific titles until you reach the one that defines the goal you are looking for.)

Search Occupational Titles - (http://www.vocrehab.com/DOTNumTITLE.asp)
This search allows you to use wild cards (%) on either the DOT Number or Title. (If you know a general category, the DOT Number wild card would be useful, but it doesn't give you the categories. For the DOT Titles, please read the use of the wild cards carefully. Results include the DOT Code, DOT Title and DOT Description.

O*Net Crosswalk - http://online.onetcenter.org/ and click Crosswalk; or http://online.onetcenter.org/cgi-bin/gen_crosswalk_page?6
As you may know, sometime in the future, the DOT will be replaced by O*Net. While we still need DOT codes for Federal coding, O*Net provides crosswalks to the DOT which are very helpful. In this program, you select the Crosswalk (DOT) and enter any keyword(s) into the Title field. This will bring you to all DOT codes containing that Keyword.

While it provides the code, it does not provide the DOT description. It does, however, provide the corresponding O*Net code and description.

Occupational Employment Statistics - http://www.bls.gov/oes/

These are estimates of the number of people employed in certain occupations, and estimates of the wages paid to them. Self-employed persons are not included in the estimates. These estimates are available for the nation as a whole, for individual States, and for metropolitan areas; national occupational estimates for specific industries are also available.

The PDF files are not designed for online reading; instead, they are provided so users may print copies that will be substantially easier to read on paper than they would be to read online. PDF files also retain the layout and page numbering of the printed article, so they can be used to make or follow bibliographic references.

O*Net Online - http://online.onetcenter.org
